报告简介:
In this talk, I will give an overview on projects with cloud computing in data mining and statistics group at Texas advanced computing center. I will first introduce the concepts of hadoop and hardware implementation of a dynamic Hadoop cluster at TACC. I will then go over two ongoing projects as exemplar data mining projects that use Hadoop for large scale data. One project is to analyze large scale simulated astronomy data to detect halo structure. The other project is a density based clustering approach to detect features and topics embedded in large scale document collection.
报告人简介:
Dr. Weijia Xu is a research scientist leading Data Mining & Statistics group at Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) in The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Xu received his doctoral degree from the Department of Computer Sciences, University of Texas at Austin with research focus in data management and analysis. Dr. Xu has over thirty publications in similarity based data retrieval, data analysis and information visualization with data from various scientific domains. Dr. Xu’s current projects focus on large scale data analysis using integrative approach of visualization and data mining methods with high performance computing and cloud computing resources. His research has been funded through awards from National Archive and Record Administration (NARA), National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institute of Health (NIH) and the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Xu also teach data analysis and visualization course in Division of Scientific and Statistics Computing at the University of Texas.
